i took you down the river, a desire line to the sea i let you run the railway back, we were making tracks for free but in return you told me of the city lights i lacked lured me to these city streets and i never found my way back but if my soul were to wander, away may it roam i’m given to the wonder, i’m forever on my way home yellow country morning, out across the farm telling you a little sunshine’s not gonna do you any harm but you maintained about living the country life you had your doubts lured me to these city streets and i never found my way out and if you thinking i’m staying, well let me make it known there’ll be no more delaying, i’m forever on my way home don’t you try to sway it don’t even say it won’t take much and i’m away down and through such a hullabaloo you agreed to take a chance so i took you for our next rendezvous to the village barn dance still you said to the cities tendencies you were prone lured me to these cities streets and i’m still trying to find my way home back to where my home town doesn’t dwell in a zone i’m located in the lost and found, i’m forever on my way home don’t you try to sway it don’t even say it won’t take much and i’m away now in play in buildings, i often say ‘i’ve got to run’ i live for the evenings, it’s a different kind of fun i’ve donned black leather trainers, i swapped them for my boots i walk upon these city streets but won’t forget my country roots but if one day i go running you’ll know where i’m goin’ back to the life that i’ve been shunning, i’m forever on my way home don’t you try to sway it don’t even say it won’t take much and i’m away you’d be a fool to question my desire to make a thousand shadows it only takes one fire

it's a strong medicine gonna numb this attack fire's in my belly, thunder's on my back now dark cloud round my head, and my legs feel like weights nothing i can do, not much i can say now and a tone of voice don't tell the real story talking to you trying to make out that you bore me but take a little look inside my mind this understatement says it don't seem fine now janie oh this time my baby's gone away and i don't know what to feel or how to say that i want you here here, or at least near this is not a drink but some kind of potion the water in my brain is a stormy ocean now out with friends just to self destruct trying to pretend that i'm up on my luck but look a little closer, delve a little deep and i'll be bending your ear to tell you all that i keep inside like these weird dreams that i have and these thoughts so incomplete and completely imaginary that keep me trapped and keep me free its not a timepiece but a sea that spins you round churns you in til you don't the end from the beginning and then it spits you out and you wake up wondering where you’ve been and what the hell that was all about anyway
3.
wonder, we might wonder how the world falls around us this way don't breath out, just think about how any actions you do might make a change as if whatever you're doing right now might affect someone else somewhere somehow oh sweet woman of mine how your words they play on my mind walking, where am i walking is this is a street that i have walked before and talking, was i not talking a voice of one man is easy to ignore but our voices can be heard as one like raindrops become an ocean oh sweet woman of mine how your words they play on my mind when revolution radio play's the songs that we all know i'll be standing with my girl living in a better world for inside our little heads is a galaxy of dreams and a mind that won't go to bed that's bursting at the seams oh sweet woman of mine how your words they play on my mind
4.
is a cigarette burn a sign from someone you love when i was going out of my mind for this new love what’s a blazing row in the street or a push and shove or when you whisper ironically that we’re through love and that scene in the v&a with everyone around heads were turning, people asking what’s that sound a dispute can seem so small next to the dalai lama both asking how’d we end up with such a charmer well my only surprise by the way you’d carry on is they didn’t throw us out of that restaurant and after you’ve called me nearly every word under the sun i’d indifferently enquire if you were done but we don’t fight like that no more no more can it be that we’ve both got nothing left to say we don’t fight anymore no more well i presume we’ll be going our separate ways well a scratch mark’s nothing more than a battle scar when you tell me to get out and walk no matter how far well you can call me what you want but don’t insult my moustache when a quiet few in a bar turns into quite the car crash well i’d down my drink cos i can’t stand this anymore then i’d drink until i can’t stand anymore oh the sky’s much clearer now the storm has blown away but i admit that i still long for those days but we don’t fight like that no more no more can it be that we’ve both got nothing left to say we don’t fight anymore no more well i presume we’ll be going our separate ways hey lover, did we lose the fight? in each sense of the word but will we ever get it right? …
5.
the river goes on instinct, wild and free it knows where it's going, not where it's meant to be if you try to tell the river to change it's ways cos you're building something bigger, i think i know what it will say what you give with your right hand with your left you take away can't you see what you're giving takes so much more away well you can't put a price now, no way, on saving evergreens not pulling them down when you realise all the money in the world won't mean nothing in a ghost town must the natural world make way for our human habitat but every little thing that we displace well you know it ain't ever coming back what you give with your right hand with your left you take away can't you see what you're giving takes so much more away the river flows as the moon makes the sea move the sun’s seen everything, do you think it would disapprove oak trees breath life, knowing all that we’ve done but it’s the little things that we’ll all miss when all this is gone what you give with your right hand with your left you take away can't you see what you're giving takes so much more away carry the fire, feel the flames as they warm me shut my eyes as the waves crash upon me carry the fire, feel the flames as they warm me shut my eyes as the rain falls down on me

the situation has arrived at the point where time and distance separates what once was joint in silence along the cobbled stones where we were walking i felt the need to speak but i didn’t feel like talking but now i’m ready to be relieved of this protective mask for the winds holding sway of my heart are warming to the task then within reach of her room she removed her disguise as her eyes turned to me in watery surprise tender as the temperature shivered through my bones confidence claimed that our paths would cross but how could it have known but now i’m ready to respond in earnest to anything she asks for the wind holding sway of my heart are warming to the task oh no time doesn’t wait, clocks relentlessly-a-tick feel like my heart’s getting broken but i guess that’s a bit dramatic like sunshine on a cloudy day you think it’s not gonna last but i like this one a lot more than others gone past and in this new-found glory i am set to bask for the winds holding sway of my heart are warming to the task
